SPAIN...........
Picture yourself with six like-minded jewelry fanatics traveling to the South of Spain! Does life get any better? This trip has been in the making for many, many months and I can't believe it's almost time to start packing our bags.
On October 15 we depart the US for eight nights in Madrid, Seville, Toledo, and Malaga. This custom-designed trip is a dream come true for me and five of my students. We plan to have a total jewelry experience, visiting museums, observing artists at work in their studios, exploring marketplaces and bazaars, and sampling all the cultural decadence of this rich and colorful area. We've even planned a one-day trip to Morocco! We'll be looking for inspiration, texture, techniques, and exploring the history and influence of adornment as it relates to art and social culture. We're sure to come back just buzzing with new ideas and sketch books full of designs.
I'll keep a travelogue of our adventures and keep you updated. I hope that this will be the first of many jewelry tours yet to come.

Here's a list of classes:
Level I Certification, September 6-7, 2008.
Dichroic Glass for PMC - Friday, September 12, 2008
PMC Techniques Weekend - September 13-14, 2008
Level 3 Certification - September 20-21, 2008
These classes are held at my sister's home on beautiful Braddock Mountain. It's very spacious, well lit, and Julia is the perfect hostess and teaching assistant. I'm very spoiled.
If you've never been to Frederick, this is a cute little community, nestled in the mountains, with lots of historic charm and plenty of opportunities to search out antiques, galleries, and great restaurants. Frederick is only 60 minutes from Baltimore or Washington, making it very accessible and affordable for weekend getaways. Bring the family and they can enjoy many interesting historic haunts or hiking the Appalachian Trail while you indulge your PMC habit.
The weekend workshop, Sept. 13-14, is going to be filled with lots of fun and fabulous techniques. You'll learn water etching and slip trailing, how to solder earring backs, the photo polymer plate process for creating your own original textures, special patina and coloration techniques, and anything else we can possibly cram into a two day workshop! This class is open to any interested metal clay artist.
Dichroic glass cabochons will cover the fundamentals of glass fusing for creating one-of-a-kind glass cabs suitable for use with PMC. You'll make approximately 4 glass cabs in this half-day class.
Level 3 is the newest PMC Connection certification open to those who have completed Level 2. This class goes to new extremes! Learn to create a hinged box and take your gemstones setting skills to a whole new level using jewelers investment.
Level I is essential for those artists who are just beginning their artistic journey with PMC. Level I helps you develop good work habits, and saves you money. Education is the best investment you can make in your artistic journey with PMC. You'll avoid costly errors and become eligible for discount purchases. Learn when and how to use each of the various types of PMC - clay, paste, syringe - while creating five beautiful jewelry designs.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Looking forward to seeing you in Maryland!

Rockin' in the Rockies....
Hola,
Susan Whitley is a force to be reckoned with! She's going to have to JUICE me up with Reiki energy and give me a stamina boost just to keep up with the scheduled she has planned for our two weeks together. Talk about a, "Rockie Mountain High!"
She has now set up a third workshop for us in Colorado. A one day workshop, Connecting with the Inner Artist will be offered in Fort Collins on Saturday, August 2 at Pathways to Wellness. Cost is $175, includes lunch, use of PMC tools, a gemstone, and enough silver to create one lovely "Chakra" pendant. This is a condensed version of the two-day workshop we're teaching in Vail Valley. Healing, art, creativity......does it get any better?
Susan is also hosting a Trunk Show & Open House at the Reiki Center of the Rockies in Edwards on Wednesday, July 23 from 2PM-6PM. I'll be demonstrating PMC techniques and you can find out more about the wonderful classes and programs Susan offers at the Reiki Center of the Rockies. For more information about the workshops call
In you're in the Ft. Collins area, Susan and I will be having lunch and a show-and-tell at the Ewomen's Network luncheon on Friday, July 18. Susan has more information on the event and this dynamic women's organization. Feel free to email her for more info.
Hope to see you in the ROCKIES!Thursday, June 19, 2008
OFF TO PURDUE......
Water Etching and Slip Trailing - July 15, 2008
This is one of my very favorite techniques! Water etching allows you to draw your own freehand art or copyright free images onto the surface of your PMC to create truly one-of-a-kind designs. Don't worry if you're not a freehand artist. I've got some tricks up my sleeve to help you achieve beautiful results with image transfers. Slip trailing is a great technique for using up old, recycled paste and creating some wonderful new looks from your "mistakes." Remember, there is no such things as an ugly piece of PMC jewelry..........It's just not finished yet!
Bezel Setting Gemstones - July 16, 2008
Lucky me.....I'm spending my birthday teaching at Purdue! Come celebrate with me.
Are you itching to learn how to set those big, yummy cabochons that can't be fired in the kiln? Onyx, turquoise, amber, quartz, bring 'em on! This is a hybrid technique I use to "crossover" from metalsmithing to PMC. You'll learn to bezel set the stone and set it on PMC after it has been fired -- shrinkage is done and no longer an issue. Beautiful, perfect results!
July 17........I'm off to Colorado!

ReCreate Your Life! - Classes in the Colorado Rockies
Greetings and welcome!
For many months I've been talking with a friend of mine from Colorado, Susan Whitley, about how cool it would be to combine two of my favorite passions, art and the healing arts. I've always been intrigued by alternative healing modalities -- meditation, journaling, centering, energetic healing -- so when Susan suggested a collaborative effort, it was a done deal!
Susan is a Reiki Master and has recently manifested her dream of opening The Reiki Center of the Rockies in Edwards, CO, the perfect setting for our workshop. Using guided imagery, meditation, and journaling, Susan will be guiding students through the process of clearing out negative, unwanted, self-limiting energy, and, in turn, bringing in some really good artistic ju-ju. On day 2, we'll create a fine silver chakra pendant honoring our inner artist and reminding us to keep to the path of creativity and self-awareness.
I hope you can join us for one or both of these gratifying and expansive workshops.
